Who Hasn’t Bounced Through a Castle?

Who Hasn’t Bounced Through a Castle?

Who Hasn’t Bounced Through a Castle?

As a kid, we all knew that the best parties had bouncy castles. These colorful, inflatable castles were the center point of many fun parties. They allow kids to run and jump around without much fear of colliding with something hard or sharp. They are a great way for parents to wear their kids out as well.

While many of us have great memories of these air filled palaces, there are some out there who view these contraptions as dangerous. Of course, bounce castles aren’t completely safe. If the kids inside get too wild, it is only a matter of time before some collide and hurt themselves. However, that is not the worst case scenario.

There have been instances where bouncy castles were picked up by strong gusts of wind. The castle then fly away with children still inside. Nobody wants to see this, and it is a nightmare situation for any parent. All a parent can do is the castle and their child come down safely, which doesn’t always happen.

If bouncy castles are not properly maintained or setup in the correct manner, problems can occur. Recently, a bouncy castle in Gorleston, England recently exploded with kids inside. Sadly, one child did die from the incident. What’s worse, is this is not the first time something like this has happened in England or here in the US. This has since caused some of England’s political leaders to begin to call for a ban on bouncy castles in the country until their safety can be better guaranteed.

With summer here, and kids out of school for the season, it is likely that there will be more people inflating bouncy castles to celebrate. Do you think they are safe, or should the US or California think about enacting stricter safety regulations for these inflatable palaces like our friends over in England? Let us know in the comments down below.

Life After Jail

Life After Jail

After months and months of patiently waiting, the day has finally come – your loved one is coming home! It’s been a long time in the making and you and your family couldn’t be more excited to see their face, give them a big hug, and for life to finally return to normal. Well, we hope that seeing their face and giving them a big hug will hold you over for some time because “getting back to normal” is going to take some a while.

The harsh reality of a loved one obtaining their freedom is that life isn’t going to return to normal as soon as they return home. They will go through several different emotional stages such as culture shock and depression, as well as adjusting to the stigma that is associated with having a criminal record. As a family member, we want you to be prepared for things they will face as they adjust to everyday life.

Culture Shock – As you can imagine, the world continues to evolve while your loved one is in jail. This includes all aspects of life such as technology, politics, and entertainment. Once they are released, they will need to learn new technology – things like the latest smartphone, social media, or navigating websites. As your loved one navigates the new technological, political, or entertainment industry landscape, it is important that you remain patient and answer any questions they may have.
Depression – After one is released from jail, depression is common. As liberating as it may be, it will be tough on your loved one to readjust to daily life outside of strict schedules and constant supervised routine. Furthermore, they will begin facing the stigmas and the harsh reality of trying to obtain employment with a criminal record. Your loved one may feel lost as they try to find a new purpose and value in society. It is important that you help guide them, listen to their frustrations, and remain positive.
Anger Management – One way to show authority in jail is to show aggression toward other. It is important to remind your loved ones that this kind of behavior is not acceptable outside of jail. As someone who cares about them, it’s important that you help them find other means of expressing their frustrations and controlling their anger.
Fight Addiction – If your loved one had an addiction prior to going to jail, or developed one while in jail, it may have impacted their personality. It is important to show support for them and offer outside resources such as a therapist, social work, or a doctor to help them combat their addiction and stay clean.

We know you are excited to see a loved one obtain their freedom. However, we also know that as exciting as it may be to be released from jail, you and your loved ones will face difficulties as they resume their life as a free person. It’s important to remind them of your support and be a constant source of positive influence as they adjust to life outside of jail.

The New California Law No One Saw Coming

The New California Law No One Saw Coming

The New California Law No One Saw Coming

Perhaps one of the more disheartening aspects of law-making is how some laws come into effect. With very little recognition, a new law was recently signed into effect that can, and likely will, change the effectiveness of law enforcement. Assembly Bill 1810 was recently signed into law as a part of California’s new budget. However, this law has very little to do with budgeting.

AB 1810 is supposed to be a health bill, but has more prominence in the law enforcement sector. Under this new law, just about anyone accused a crime, regardless of how serious, could claim a mental health issue and ask to be placed on a two year diversion plan. In other words, a person could say they only committed a crime because they have a problem and then the judge would put him or her into a two year course to correct whatever problem the person claims to have. Upon completion of the course, the person’s record would be sealed, making it as if the crime never happened.

The wording of the bill is very vague, and allows for just about anyone to claim some mental health issue. It is easy to see how this can very easily be used and manipulated to get people out of being punished for a crime. What’s worse, is how little attention this big change in law got. It spent less a week going through Sacramento before being approved by both houses and sent to the Governor for final signature. That is not a lot of time to truly evaluate something this substantial.

Of course, there are some people out there who need a program like this. Something like this can get them the help that they desperately need. Unfortunately, the way the bill is worded, it is very easy for someone to take advantage of this change in procedures, and use it to avoid any real punishment altogether.

Could Prop 9 Be Stopped Before Anyone Gets to Vote?

Could Prop 9 Be Stopped Before Anyone Gets to Vote?

Could Prop 9 Be Stopped Before Anyone Gets to Vote?

If you have been paying attention to politics this year in the state of California, you know that we voters have some pretty big decisions to make come November. One of the biggest measures on the ballot this year is whether we want to begin looking at dividing California into three separate states.

This is a very big deal for every Californian, and as such, it is receiving a lot of attention. In fact, a group of people is now trying to block the measure from being added to the November ballot. An environmentalist group, The Planning and Conservation League, sponsored the filing at the California Supreme Court.

The argument against Prop 9 is that it is too big of a decision to give to the people of California. Prop 9 claims that it will only amend the state Constitution, however its critics say that the measure will completely revise the state Constitution. This is something that the California Supreme Court has regularly sided against.

Splitting up the state of California is a very big deal, and this isn’t the first time someone has tried to do this. In fact, this isn’t even the first time that Prop 9’s sponsor tried to split up the state. Tim Draper tried to split California into 6 states back in 2014, but the measure ultimately failed.

California is a pretty big state, and the thought of splitting it up is terrifying for many people. However, splitting up the state is not as simple as voting to do so. Even if Californians approve the measure, it would still need to be approved by the state senate and House of Representatives. From there, it would then go to Congress in Washington DC for final approval, which would be unlikely. A state hasn’t been split since West Virginia separated from Virginia in 1863.

New Ancient Redwoods? How’s That Possible?

New Ancient Redwoods? How’s That Possible?

New Ancient Redwoods? How’s That Possible?

One of California’s trademark sights are redwood trees. These spectacular trees are primarily found along the Northern California coast. Redwoods are some of the tallest and oldest trees on earth. With some standing taller than a 32-story building, these trees are a breathtaking sight to behold, and become even more wondrous when you realize how old some of them are.

Due to how long it takes for them to grow, redwood forests are in danger. Forests of redwoods cannot recover as quickly as damage may be done to them. This is why many of these forests within California are protected. Soon enough, a new region of redwood forests will be opened to the public as a protected park for the trees.

You may be asking yourself: If it takes so long for these trees to grow, how is there going to be a new forest? Well, a man by the name of Harold Richardson owned a large swath of land in Sonoma County, about three hours north of San Francisco, which was covered by a giant redwood forest. He spent his life protecting the land, and the trees that lived there.

Sadly, in Richardson passed away in 2016. When he did, he bequeathed the land to the Save the Redwoods League. Since then, the League has been studying the 730 acres of forested land, and the wildlife that calls it home. The researchers relate this impressive forest to finding an ancient civilization of redwoods.

The Save the Redwoods League has successfully achieved a permanent protection status for the lands this year. This means that California has a new protected reserve of ancient redwoods, and that these trees will be safe for a very long time. The league plans on opening the Harold Richardson Redwoods Reserve to the public in the near future with plenty of hiking trails to ensure that everyone can share in the beauty of these magnificent trees that call our state home.

How Hot Is Too Hot?

How Hot Is Too Hot?

How Hot Is Too Hot?

With the summer heat in full swing once again, it is important for everyone to do their best to stay cool this season. While looking out for ourselves in this sort of weather is one thing, we can’t forget about the lives that are in our care. Children and pets cannot take care of themselves the way adults can.

Young children can’t be expected to take care of themselves. They don’t know the warning signs of when a place is too hot, nor do they have the ability to deal with the heat. Due to these facts, a child should never be left unattended in a car when temperatures approach 70 degrees. If they are left alone in a car in warm conditions, they could face serious bodily harm or worse.

Even at a comfortable temperature like 75 degrees, the inside of a car can become unbearable. The interior of a car can drastically increase in temperature when exposed to the harsh summer sun. The insides can reach up to 118 degrees at this low of a temperature, and can reach up to 145 degrees if the outside is at 94 degrees.

Even if you were just planning on running into the store for just a moment, the interior of the car will begin to bake the moment you shut off the air conditioning. Leaving the windows open just a crack is not enough to cool off the car. The metal body of the vehicle absorbs heat while the glass windows magnify it. All of that warmth gets trapped inside the vehicle making it unsafe for anyone, child or pet, to be stuck inside.

At this time of the year, it is best to leave pets at home where the climate is more controlled, and to bring kids into the store with you. While this may be inconvenient, this can help save their lives.

Not Many People Realize There’s a Difference between These Terms

Not Many People Realize There’s a Difference between These Terms

There are a lot of things that aren’t taught in public schools, or at least not taught very well. For instance, who actually learned how to pay their taxes in high school? Another example would be what bail is exactly, and how it works. Most people have no idea, and that works for them. However, thousands of people are arrested every day in California, and that means that roughly thousands of people need to learn about bail on a daily basis.

One aspect of bail that confuses people, is the difference between bail and bail bonds. Most people assumes that these terms can be used interchangeably, but that is not the case. Bail and bail bonds, while related and similar, are two different solutions to the same problem.

When a person is arrested and sent to jail, they are typically assigned a bail amount while they await their trial. If the person pays this amount to the jail, they will be released and free to go home, provided they always show up to their court dates. The bail amount is determined by a judge, and must be paid in full before the person can be released.

Since most people can’t afford to pay several thousand dollars for bail, they choose to get a bail bond instead. With a bail bond, the person pays a bail agent to pay the bail for them. The amount bail agents charge in California, is 10% of the bail that they will be paying. This means that the price of the bail bond is dependent on the price of the bail, which is set by the judge. Aside from being cheaper, bail bonds can also be paid for with payment plans, and only a small portion of the bond needs to be paid for in order for your loved one to be released from jail.

Bail and bail bonds may be related, but they are not the same thing. Bail is what needs to be paid in order for someone to get out of jail. A bail bond is what happens when a person hires a bail agent to pay for the bail for them. Bail bonds are more affordable, flexible payment options for bailing someone out of jail.

Forgery or Fraudulence

Forgery or Fraudulence

Forgery or Fraudulence

Money seems to be the route of all evil. It drives people to work, or commit crimes so that they are able to afford to live. We do a lot of things for money. We wouldn’t go to work if it wasn’t for money. The hair stylist wouldn’t cut you hair without money. Since money is a driving force, it’s no surprise that fake money would exist. After all, those who have the most money, have the most power.

Creating fake money is highly frowned upon by the U.S. Government. It’s very illegal to commit fraud and forgery. The terms fraud and forgery are often used interchangeably, but they do not mean the same thing. One term is the method of which the other is created. One refers to the willfulness of committing deceptions, while the other refers to imitating an object.

Fraud is considered intentional deception. All forms of fraud are considered unlawful. Fraud is the method of which a forgery could be used. Fraud could be posing as person and it could also be on a form of paper. Falsifying documents is a form of fraud as well.

Forgery is making a fake copy of the original with the intent of deception. Forgery can be in the form of a signature, painting, statue, money, identification cards, and more. People who get charged with forgery are often charged with fraud as well. This is part of the reason why these two words go hand and hand with each other.

Forgery and fraud can lead to heavy fines and jail time. Both have serious consequences that can result in you losing time with family and friends. Though money can be a big driving force, it shouldn’t make you blind to justice. Fraud and forgery are both crimes that can earn a person some serious jail time.

You Won’t Believe How Homeless We Are

You Won’t Believe How Homeless We Are

You Won’t Believe How Homeless We Are

When you drive downtown in any city in Californian, there is at least one street that is home to the area’s homeless. These sections of towns are unclean, and people usually avoid them like the plague. Recently, you may have noticed an increase in the homeless population in California. There could be many factors that have contributed to the increase.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), California’s homeless population has increased 14% from the years 2016 to 2017. Those numbers mean that roughly 134,000 more people are without homes in California. Those are people of all ages, kids and elders, living without protection from the weather. Those people can’t afford to live here in California, but can’t afford to leave either.

In comparison to the rest of the world, California isn’t doing so great when it comes to homelessness. The national homeless population has only increased by 1% in 2017. The national average is actually lower than it was back in 2010. The price of housing could have influenced this according to National Public Radio (NPR). California ultimately ranks third when it comes to homeless population. Hawaii and New York have the highest number of homeless.

Recently in 2018, bills have been passed to help decrease the increase in homeless. These bills will help provide people with Section 8 housing, or more government assistance. This is meant to help with California’s homeless population. According to HUD, California’s homeless make up for at least a quarter of the national homeless population.

The good news out of all this is that Californians are actively trying to fix this problem. The recent bills that were passed will greatly impact the homeless community. When we think of homeless people, we usually think about the creepy, unclean person begging for money for drugs. However, that isn’t always the case. There are kids, teenagers, and young adults that don’t have a place to go and are left on the streets.

No one chooses to be homeless. Remember, there are many factors that cause someone to be homeless.
